what is NoYSE???     a little about our program...

MISSION

The New Orleans Youth Sound Experience teaches, at no cost to the student, music production and recording to both at-risk and creative youth ages 12-17, while giving them hands-on experience, infusing an appreciation of local culture, and engaging them in their community.

A New Orleans Music for Social Change Program

This program is focused on music production, recording, live sound.

The program is free and targeted to students ranging from 12 – 17 years old (as a general guideline). The students served are underserved youth in the community, youth in need of social help, as well as talented students on a path towards a music career or field related to stage production or music business. The skills taught are aimed at professional level live sound, recording, and basic music production and will be hands-on using state-of-the-art equipment.

The mission of NOYSE is to produce opportunities to youth in need of change or seeking greater involvement with their own personal development. Student participants will be trained in a safe, fun, hands-on environment with modern equipment in a real music venue. Students learn skills which directly serve those aspiring a music career, but also indirectly serves youth needing exposure to developing enjoyable and beneficial career opportunities through education.

NOYSE is serving 13 students from the St. Claude community, 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th ward students, including two from the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office juvenile diversion program.

Because the program is hosted by Cafe Istanbul, a live music and theatrical venue, the students in this program get an amazing experience on and off the real stage. The Healing Center is within walking distance to NOCCA, lies on several bus routes, and offers safe parking.
